General Manager Research, Quality and Innovation - Murray McGregor

File 591Murray McGregor is Professor of Agribusiness at Curtin University of Technology (Perth, Western Australia), having gained his PhD in Farm Management in 1987 through Lincoln University (New Zealand) and has held research posts in New Zealand, Scotland and Australia.

Murray’s major research interests focus on the application of systems thinking to remote area socioeconomic systems, agribusiness supply chains, farm management and rural development. He led the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust research project ‘Cross-jurisdictional management of feral camels to protect NRM and cultural values’.  

Murray is a former Director and Professor of Agribusiness at Muresk Institute of Agriculture at Curtin University of Technology.

From 2003, he was seconded to the Desert Knowledge CRC where he was leader of the research theme Integrated Systems for Better Desert Livelihoods and, from 2005, General Manager Research.

Kevin has extensive experience in research and management across the agricultural, natural resource management and renewable energy sectors. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Horticulture, a Masters in Biotechnology, and a PhD in Plant Molecular Genetics.

After five years working in the horticulture industry in the UK, New Zealand and Australia, Kevin followed an interest into research, moving to Adelaide to lead a team investigating the genetic basis of plant disease resistance at the CRC for Molecular Plant Breeding, based at the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI). In 2006, he led a new biofuels research group at SARDI, which was one of the first to focus on microalgae for biofuels production. The group developed a national facility to study algae-based biofuels.

File 611In 2008 Kevin became the Executive Officer of the NT Natural Resource Management Board before moving to the Faculty of Education, Health and Science at Charles Darwin University. In 2010 he moved to the School of Engineering and IT as Associate Professor and Director of the NT Centre for Renewable Energy.
